Church of Saint John the Baptist

The Church of St. John the Baptist in Kaluga stands on the site of a former wooden church. In 1763, two side chapels and wall paintings appeared in it, and the walls, window slopes, and frames around the icons are covered with artificial marble, while the floor is laid with Mettlach tiles. The seven-tiered iconostasis was repainted between 1890 and 1899 based on drawings by Vasnetsov, Nesterov, Makovsky, and Sorokin, and in early January, a "Nativity Scene" composition is installed near the church walls. The building also houses a museum of everyday history, and until 1995, a College of Culture was located here until the church was finally transferred to the Kaluga Diocese in 2007.
