St George's Cathedral "Beyond the Heights"

The Holy-Georgievsky Cathedral in Kaluga is situated at Baumana Street, 14. This stone building constructed in 1701 is known for housing the miraculous Kaluga icon of the Mother of God. The cathedral served as a cathedral until 1999. Its upper iconostasis was made in Moscow Baroque style; its five-tiered iconostasis was created during the second half of the 18th century. Lower saints' icons date back to the late 16th - early 17th centuries. The name "za verkhom" originates from the local term "verkh", meaning ravine.
