Church of Cosmas and Damian

The Church of Cosmas and Damian in Kaluga is a monument of architecture of republican significance, the building of which was closed in 1937 and used to house prisoners. The church, whose plan resembles a ship with a petal-shaped base, is the only such example in the city. It houses particles of the relics of Saint Matrona of Moscow and Venerable Nil Stolobensky, as well as an icon of Saints Cosmas and Damian. Regular services resumed after the consecration of the central chapel by Archbishop Clement in 1998, six years after the building was returned to the Kaluga diocese.
