Kaluga Regional Drama Theatre

Kaluga Regional Drama Theatre opened in 1777 is one of Russia's oldest theaters. Established simultaneously with the creation of Kaluga Governorate under the initiative of Mikhail Nikitich Krechetnikov, it became an important center for Russian theatrical tradition. The first performance took place thanks to Vasily Ivanovich Maykov's play "Prologue on the Opening of Kaluga Governorate". Today, the theater remains the leading regional theater in the country.
