Dvoryanskoe Sobranie

The Duma Society House in Kaluga, situated on Karl Marx Street, is a cultural heritage site of federal significance. Built in mid-XIX century according to a typical design by gubernatorial architect Ivan Tamansky, it stands on a steep bank overlooking the Oka River. Important social events for local nobility took place here: gatherings, balls, masquerades and concerts. Inside there remains an unique cast iron staircase from XIX century with artistic casting. A special event occurred in September 1935 when residents gathered to bid farewell to Konstantin Tsiolkovsky. In 1869 Imam Shamil swore allegiance to the Russian emperor in the large hall.
