Lower Pond

Lower Pond in Kaliningrad is situated along the city's green zone. Originally created in 1256 by the Teutonic Knights, it was initially called "milling" due to a watermill and using water to fill castle moats. Today its length reaches 800 meters with widths ranging from 55 to 90 meters. However, over time the shores were built up, leading to pollution of the pond and turning it into an infection source. An interesting detail is the tragic incident in 1869 when a bridge collapsed during King William I's visit.
