Moscow Gates

"Moscow Gates" is Irkutsk's main symbol, installed in 2001 at its former historical location. It is a majestic arch 19 meters high and over 16 meters wide, decorated with columns, bas-reliefs and plasterwork. Originally built in 1813 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Emperor Alexander I's reign, they were destroyed after 115 years. Under the portico there is a room for tea parties.
