Bogoyavlensky Cathedral

Bogoyavlensky Cathedral — the second oldest stone church in Irkutsk, founded in 1693 outside the fortress. Dedicated in 1746 after 28 years of construction, it survived strong earthquakes in 1804 and 1861. During Soviet times, it housed a bakery; later restored, it became a museum. Returned to the Orthodox Church in 1994. Notable for being spared from fire in 1879, with flames stopping nearby its walls.
