Old Town and Fortress Walls of Derbent

The Old Town and Fortress Walls of Derbent form a unique cultural landscape comprising fortifications and medieval mahallas. Located between two fortress walls preserving part of the ancient layout, it was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2003 and long served as an important strategic passage between the Caucasus Mountains and the Caspian Sea. The fortress structures consist of two parallel stone walls stretching from sea to mountain range.
