Narын Kala Fortress and Historical-Aрхitectural Reserve

Derbent Historical and Architectural Reserve-Museum "Naryn-Kala" is located on a high hill in the center of Derbent. The fortress built in the 6th century is a key outpost of the ancient trade route - the Great Silk Road. Archaeological excavations revealed a cultural layer stretching from the end of the 4th millennium BC to the 19th century, reaching a depth of 12 meters. The complex includes preserved Sasanian defensive structures and is an important monument of world fortification. Today it represents an open-air city-museum showcasing the rich history of the region.
