Igor Kurchatov Monument

The Igor Kurchatov monument is situated on Science Square in Chelyabinsk, at the intersection of Lenina Avenue and Gagarin Park. A 27-meter-high sculpture was installed to commemorate the city's 250th anniversary in 1986. Hemispheres on the pillars symbolize atomic fission. In the evening, the monument is illuminated by spotlights. The site is popular among young people, skateboarders, and bicyclists. The sculptor is Vardges Avakyan.
