Glinka State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre of Chelyabinsk

Chelyabinsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after M.I. Glinka is located on the Arts Square in Chelyabinsk. The building of the theatre, constructed in 1956 on the site of the destroyed Christmas Cathedral, has become an important architectural landmark of the city. Performances of both classical music and works by contemporary composers are held here. The first performance of the first season was the opera "Knyaz Igor" by A. Borodin. Since 1996, the theater has been awarded the title of Academic and for a long time was known as "the laboratory of Soviet opera."
