Blagoveshchenskaya Church Vitebsk
Vitebsk, Zamkovaya St, 1
Blagoveshchenskaya Church is situated on Zamkovaya Street in Vitebsk. Built on the left bank of the Western Dvina River, it was demolished in 1961 but reconstructed in the style of the XII century from 1993 to 1998. A significant event was the visit of the Patriarch Alexius II in 1998 and the first liturgy held in the restored church in January 1999. Examined by architect Pyotr Baranovsky in 1944, today the church symbolizes the revival of Orthodox life in the city and serves as a monument to ancient Russian architecture.
