Kara-tepe — Buddhist monastery situated on a hill near Termez. It is an important monument of medieval Central Asian Buddhism dated to the 1st century AD. The complex's name translates as "black hill". Together with neighboring Fayaztepa Kara-tepe forms a key section of the Buddhist pilgrimage route in this area.
