Shahi Zindah

Shahi-Zinda — part of UNESCO site "Samarkand - Crossroads of Cultures". Complex consists of three groups of structures connected by stairs. Decorative ceramics of Timurids and masters' inscriptions have been preserved here. Name translates as "Living King". Central building is associated with Kusam ibn Abbas, cousin of prophet Muhammad. Architecture ensemble demonstrates various techniques of ceramic decoration. Structures are situated along the street leading up the Afrasiab hill.
