Ulugh Beg Madrasah

Ulugh Beg Madrasah located on Registan Square in Samarkand is the oldest of three educational institutions of the ensemble. Built in the 15th century under Ulugh Beg's rule, it symbolizes the scientific and educational significance of Samarkand at that time. The building architecture includes a main portal with rich mosaic decor forming the western part of Registan. The madrasah plays an important role in understanding the relationship between architecture, science and power in the Timurid state.
