Hazrat Khizr

The Khazrat-Khyzyr Mosque is situated near the southern boundaries of the ancient city of Afrasiab. The complex includes a mosque, an iwan, vestibule and minaret; most structures date back to the mid-19th century. After reconstructions and additions from the late 19th to early 20th centuries, it also became the burial place for Uzbekistan's first president Islam Karimov in 2016. The iwan faces picturesque views of old Samarkand, decorated with carved wooden columns and painted ceiling.
