Ichan-Kala

Ichan-Kala — ancient inner city of Khiva surrounded by fortress walls and protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage site since 1990. The city is an intact example of medieval eastern urban structure with gates, madrasas, mosques, palaces and residential quarters. It features dozens of Islamic architectural monuments on an area of about 26 hectares, including famous gates: At-Darwaza, Palvan-Darwaza, Bagcha-Darwaza and Tash-Darwaza.
