State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan named after I.V. Savitsky

The State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan named after I.V. Savitsky is located in Nukus at Rashidova Street, 116. Founded in 1966 by Igor Savitsky, it became the main art institution of the region. The museum exhibits paintings, archaeological findings from ancient Khorezm, ethnographic items and decorative applied arts of the Karakalpaks. Its collections of Russian and Soviet avant-garde are particularly renowned, considered among the best outside Russia. It is often compared to the Louvre due to its unique art presented in a remote corner of the Aral Sea basin.
