Namazgokh Mosque

The Namazgah Mosque in Bukhara belongs to the type of open festive prayer grounds known as musalla and is located on the southwestern outskirts of the historic center. The oldest surviving part of this monument — the qibla wall with a mihrab — was erected in 1119–1120 by order of the Karakhanid ruler Arslan Khan on the site of the former garden of Shams al-Mulk. The extended brick surface of the wall is decorated with carved figured bricks and terracotta inserts with geometric patterns. The mosque is part of the historical and architectural context of Bukhara, protected by UNESCO.
