Bukhara Zindan

The Bukhara Zindan is a former underground prison of the Emir of Bukhara, located in the northwestern corner of the ancient shahristan, about a hundred meters northeast of the Ark Citadel. Carved into the ground to a depth of 6.5 meters, it is lined with fired brick and has a diameter of about 5 meters. The complex contains the tomb of the revered patron of prisoners, Kuchkar-Ata. Today, an exposition on the history of the judicial system of the Bukhara Emirate operates here, including an exhibition of soldiers' weapons, and the site itself is part of the city's historical center protected by UNESCO.
