Znamenskaya (Vlayskaya) Tower

Znamenskaya, or Vlayskaya Tower - one of the few surviving towers of Yaroslavl's Zemlyanoy Gorodok. Built after the fire of 1658, it had stone walls over three meters thick and originally ended with a wooden shatrov. Inside the tower was a water tank capacity about 15 thousand buckets. The structure protected the western entrance to the city on the way to Uglich and was part of the defensive system of Zemlyanoy Gorodok.
