Uspensky Cathedral

The Успенский кафедральный собор is located on the Kotorosl River Embankment in the historical center of Yaroslavl. The first mention of the temple dates back to 1215 when Prince Konstantin laid the foundation for the first stone church here. The current building was restored from 2004 to 2010 to celebrate the millennium of the city. Here are kept a venerated icon of the Mother of God and the relics of Saints Princes Vasilii and Konstantin Yaroslavsky. Throughout its history, the cathedral has burned down and been reconstructed several times; during the Soviet era it was completely destroyed. Today it is the main church of Yaroslavl and is situated at the Sreda — one of the city's iconic points.
