Ilya Prophet Church

Prohorov Church in Yaroslavl, located on Sovetskaya Square, is a monument of 17th-century architecture. The stone church was built from 1647 to 1650 with donations from merchants Ioannikiy and Vonifatiy Skripiny. Interior paintings done by masters Guriy Nikitin and Sila Savin in 1680 have survived until today. The temple is known for its unique artistic interior and considered a symbol of the city. According to legend, the church was the first building constructed at the founding of Yaroslavl.
