Bear Monument

In Yaroslavl, on May First Street near house 55, there is a bronze statue of a bear installed since 2009. This sculptural composition depicts a bear standing on four legs. Inside the mechanism of the monument periodically emits characteristic bear growls which can be heard according to a certain schedule. The monument is designed as an enlarged version of Fabergé's bear figurine and is part of events commemorating the city's 1000th anniversary. Legend connects the bear image with the feat of Prince Yaroslav the Wise who fought against a she-bear.
