Metropolitical Palaces

Metropolitan Palaces in Yaroslavl are situated on Volga Embankment, built in 1682 by Metropolitan Ioann Sysoevich. Here there is a permanent exhibition of ancient Russian art from the 13th to 17th centuries including about 500 icons. Since 1767 the palaces were used as residence for Empress Catherine II during her visit. The building is one of the oldest in the city and represents an example of ancient Russian stone civil architecture.
