Alexander Nevsky Chapel

Yaroslavl, Andropova St, 8

Alexander Nevsky Chapel is situated in Yaroslavl on Andropov Street. It was built upon local merchants' initiative and consecrated in memory of members of the royal family. Funding for construction came from Yaroslavl merchants; the project was supervised by gubernatorial architect Nikolay Pozdeev. After a long period of use for storage purposes, the chapel was returned to believers towards the end of the 20th century and underwent restoration. The chapel's image appears on the front side of the thousand-ruble note issued by Russia's Central Bank in 1997 series.
