Nikitsky Monastery
Pereslavl-Zalessky, s. Nikitskaya sloboda, ul. Zaprudnaya, 20
Nikitsky Monastery is situated in Nikitskaya Sloboda village near Pereslavl-Zalesskiy. Established in the 12th century, it is among the oldest Russian monasteries. Stone structures emerged only in the mid-16th century during Ivan the Terrible's reign. Famous for the exploits of Saint Nikita the Ascetic, his incorruptible remains were housed here until the start of the 15th century. During the 16th century, the abbey endured significant damage from the Polish invasion yet subsequently regained its prominence and resumed operations since 1994.
