Goritsky Uspensky Monastery

The Goritsky Uspensky Monastery is situated on a picturesque elevation at the southern shore of Lake Plesheyevo in Pereslavl-Zalesskiy. Established in the thirteenth century, it once served as an archiepiscopal residence following the creation of the Pereslavl Eparchy in 1744. After the dissolution of the eparchy in 1788, the monastery declined. Today, it hosts one of Russia's major provincial museums, opened to the public since 1919. Its collections feature wooden sculptures, ancient icons, monastic relics, and artifacts from aristocratic homes.
