Pokrovsky Cathedral

Pokrovsky Cathedral in Voronezh, situated on Bekhtereva Street, has a long history starting in early 17th century. It was consecrated in 1841 by Archbishop Anthony Smirninsky. From 1948 to 2009 it served as the cathedral church of Voronezh Diocese. In 1989 its relics of Bishop Mitrofan Voronezhsky were transferred here. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II of Moscow visited it. The cathedral is also notable for having since 1948 an iconostasis dedicated to Znamensky Chapel.
