Chizhovka Battlefield Memorial Complex

Memorial complex "Chizhovsky Platzdar" is situated in Voronezh on 20th October Street. It houses the largest burial site from World War II, where over 15,000 Soviet soldiers who died between July 1942 and January 1943 are buried. The complex features Memory Hall with names of 3,545 interred individuals and sculptures by Alexandra and Oleg Tolmachyov. From the vertical plaza two symmetrical staircases lead to the hall. Construction of the memorial began in 1973 commemorating the start of significant offensive operation on January 25, 1943.
