Vasilyevsky Monastery in Suzdal was founded in 1253 and dedicated to Saint Basil the Great, becoming the sole such monastery in Russia. Following its revival in 1995, the principal cathedral constructed from 1662 to 1669 and the Sreteniya refectory church of late seventeenth century have been preserved. The monastery is first recorded in a document by Princess Maria of Rostov in 1253 and associated with events of the internal conflict of 1095.
