Spaso-Efimov Monastery

Spaso-Efimov Monastery in Suzdal, founded in 1352 by Prince Boris Konstantinovich, is a significant historical monument of Russia. Its stone ensemble was formed in the XVI-XVII centuries, and after canonization of Efimy in 1549 it received its current name. In 1967 major restoration works began on the ensemble, which was subsequently included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In the XVIII century there was a prison for political prisoners operating since 1766 and functioning until the beginning of the XX century.
