Znamensky Cathedral

The Znamensky Cathedral is located in Tyumen at Semakova Street, 13. It is the principal Orthodox church of the city, founded in 1768 and consecrated in 1801. The cathedral is a monument of Siberian Baroque and is renowned for its icon of the Virgin Mary "Znamenny," which rescued the city from cholera in 1848. In 1904, it was augmented with a northern chapel. Within the cathedral are four bells formerly situated on lighthouses of the Far East. The temple distinguishes itself through its architectural style contrasting with the city's built environment.
