Tula Academic Drama Theatre

The Tula Academic Drama Theatre opened in December 1777, almost simultaneously with the formation of the Tula province. It was here that the great actor Mikhail Shchepkin began his career, and writer Leo Tolstoy attended its rehearsals. The theater is known for being visited by Empress Catherine II in 1778. Today it is an academic theater and actively tours Russia's major cities.
