Uspensky Cathedral

Uspensky Cathedral is located on Sobornaya Hill in the center of Smolensk. It is an important church in Russia built to commemorate the city's defense in the 17th century. The main cathedral on this site was founded by Vladimir Monomakh in 1101. The current building was constructed in 1676-1677. Its main relics include the icon of Our Lady "Odigitriya", Saint Merkuriy's sandals and the shroud "Lying-in-the-Tomb". The temple was consecrated in 1740.
