Spaso-Preobrazhensky Avraamiev Monastery

Spaso-Preobrazhensky Avraamiev Monastery is located in the eastern part of Smolensk near the fortress wall. It was founded in the early 13th century. There is a stone two-story Spaso-Preobrazhensky cathedral built in 1755. Also preserved to this day is the abbot's house and an 18th-century seminary building. The monastery housed the first Smolensk seminary opened in 1728. The monastery buildings suffered destruction during the city's siege in the 17th century and during World War II.
