Heroes Memory Square
Smolensk, at the southern section of Smolensk Fortress Wall
Heroes' Memorial Square is situated near the southern section of Smolensk Fortress wall. There are 19 memorial plaques commemorating soldiers from 1812, as well as monuments "Grateful Russia - heroes of 1812" and "hero cities of CIS". The square includes burials of World War II soldiers and an Eternal Flame lit in 1968. It is the primary site for honoring defenders of Smolensk and Russia.
