Monument to the Defenders of Smolensk on August 4–5, 1812

The Monument to the Defenders of Smolensk on August 4–5, 1812, located in Lopatinsky Garden, was unveiled on November 5, 1841, on the twenty-ninth anniversary of the city's liberation from French troops. The project of the monument was created by architect Antonio Adamini, and its pedestal lists the generals who commanded the Russian troops and indicates the number of soldiers who fought and fell on both sides. In 1873, two French cannons on carriages were installed on the sides of the monument. The monument is part of the memorial complex of the historic part of Lopatinsky Garden.
