Sofiysky Regiment Monument

The memorial to Sofiysky Regiment was installed in Lopatinsky Garden, on the Royal Bastion in Smolensk. It was opened in 1912, ahead of the centennial of the War of 1812. Created by artist-sculptor Boris Nikolaevich Tsepankov using funds from soldiers and officers of the regiment, it features an obelisk with an eagle figure crowned with outstretched wings. Only two bronze plaques originally placed in the pedestal niches have survived until our time. In 1960, the monument underwent restoration.
