Monument to M.I. Kutuzov of Smolensk

The Monument to M.I. Kutuzov of Smolensk on Cathedral Hill in Smolensk is a bronze full-length figure of the Field Marshal, installed on a pedestal made of pink granite. The monument, unveiled on June 20, 1954, was created by sculptor G.I. Motovilov and architect L.M. Polyakov in the image of the hero from L.N. Tolstoy's novel "War and Peace". Work on the monument began in the late 1940s, and the sculptor depicted the commander at the moment of triumph after the victory over the enemy. The city also features a separate bust of Kutuzov in the Heroes' Memory Square.
