Tvardovsky Monument and Vasily Terkin Statue

In the center of Smolensk, on Victory Square, there stands a monument to poet-frontier Alexander Tvardovsky and his literary character Vasily Terkin. A sculpture created by A.G. Sergeev, made from bronze, depicts poets at a campfire. It was solemnly unveiled on May 2, 1995, to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of victory. Tvardovsky, born in the Smolensk province, posthumously received the title of honorary citizen of Smolensk.
