Sorrowful Mother Memorial

The memorial "Mourning Mother" was opened in Smolensk in 1970 in the Readovsky Park near the Mound of Immortality. More than 3,000 deceased are buried at this memorial, and an inscription about the eternal memory of the people is carved on the granite stone. On the other side of the stone, there is a quatrain by the Smolensk poet Nikolai Rylenkov. The authors of the project were architects A.G. Stemparzhitsky and G.G. Soosar, sculptor A.G. Sergeev, and artist S.S. Novikov.
