Lopatinsky Garden

Lopatinsky Garden spreads over 12 hectares in the center of Smolensk. Established in 1873 under Governor Alexander Lopatin's decree on the grounds of former Royal Fortress. The garden was named after him by Emperor Alexander II's decree. Historical heritage of the city has been preserved here, complemented with modern infrastructure for recreation. A monument to defenders of Smolensk stands in the park, unveiled in 1841.
