Tomb of Immortality

In Readovsky Park in Smolensk rises the Mound of Immortality — a monument opened in 1970. It is an truncated pentagonal pyramid crowned with an 11-meter-high stele shaped like open book pages listing the years of World War II — 1941-1945. The structure is made from earth excavated from brotherly graves throughout the region. At the foot of the mound burns Eternal Flame. The project's author is architect Daniel Kovalenko.
