Smolensky Cat

The sculptural composition "Smolensk Cat" is located in a square at the intersection of Nikolaeva Street and October Revolution Street, opposite the Sovremennik cinema. The author of the work is the Smolensk sculptor Valery Grashchenkov, who also created the monument to Saint Abraham of Smolensk, the monument to Prince Vladimir, and the bust of Boris Vasilyev. A small stone figure of a cat, adorned with decorative curls, depicts an animal stretching and squinting at the viewer. The image has become beloved by residents and visitors of the city, resulting in souvenir magnets, and there is a belief that a wish will come true if you scratch the cat behind the ear or stroke its back.
