St. John the Theologian Church on Varjag Road

St. John the Theologian Church on Bolshaya Krasnoflotskaya Street in Smolensk - the oldest partially preserved Domongolsky church in the city. Founded in 1173 by Prince Roman Rostislavich. In the 16th century after the capture of Smolensk by the Poles, the church was used as a Catholic cathedral. Returned to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1654. Destroyed during Napoleon's war in 1812 and subsequently restored.
