Thunder Tower

Thunder Tower — one of the surviving sixteen-sided towers of Smolensk fortress wall. The first to be restored in its original form, it was renovated from 1967 to 1977. A museum dedicated to the city's defense in the 17th century has been opened here, featuring exhibits on weapons of that time and access to the upper battlefield. Previously, the tower housed the "Smolensk — Russia's Shield" museum and the Museum of Socialist Construction.
