Monument to the First Teacher
Saratov, intersection of Moscow St and Solyannaya St
The monument to the first teacher in Saratov was erected on September 1, 1996, on the initiative of Governor Dmitry Fyodorovich Ayatskov. The bronze composition, depicting a teacher and a girl bending over a book, symbolizes public education and is dedicated to the work of teachers. Previously, this sculpture by Moscow artist Sergey Mikhailovich Volnukhin was one of the four figures of the monument to Alexander II that survived after its dismantling in 1918. Before being placed at the intersection of Moskovskaya and Solyanaya streets, the monument was located near the children's ward of the Third Soviet Hospital.
