Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after D. D. Shostakovich

Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after D.D. Shostakovich is situated on Kuybysheva Square in Samara. It was founded in 1931 with the premiere of opera "Boris Godunov". Here, in 1942, the Seventh Symphony by Shostakovich was first performed. The theater is known for productions such as choreographic drama "Romeo and Juliet" (1979) and hosting International Festival "Shostakovich. Above Time". The orchestra of Bolshoi Theatre rehearsed there, and outstanding conductors like Samuel Samosud were invited to lead the premieres of symphonies.
